The Scouts from Axe District took part in a raft building and racing challenge at Marine Lake on 25th June 2017.
Mother nature wasn't on our side to start the day, with Scouts arriving and Marine Lake underwater due to the high tide! Once the water had retreated, our Scouts ventured out in the wet and cold to build their rafts in teams using ropes, Barrels and Pioneering Poles. All the teams were very successful in making sturdy rafts for racing!
At 12:00PM, just as the sun decided to join us, the teams then took to the water and commenced racing! Every team raced twice in the first heats, they gained points depending on if they came 1st, 2nd or 3rd. The 8 teams with the highest scores then formed two semi-final races. The final was made up of 1st and 2nd place teams from the two semi-final races.
This event proved extremely popular with 24 teams taking part. There was even time at the end for our Leaders to get wet and race rafts built by their scouts.
All the Scouts and adults that attended commented on how much they enjoyed themselves!
