1st Banwell Scout Group would like to thank
The Kathleen Jones Family Charity
for our amazing new Headquarters
Here are Wally & Roy Rice & Laura Wainwright, some of the KJFC Trustees, handing the keys of the
new building over to Sonja Hammond, Group Scout Leader of 1st Banwell & Brian Redden, Chair of
the Group's Executive Committee.
We just wanted to recognise & thank everyone involved with The Kathleen Jones Family Charity for
their breathtakingly generous gift of a new Headquarters, replacing the 40+ year old rickety old
Scout Hut, ensuring many more years of benefit to the young people from the Village of Banwell &
surrounds. The building was designed with input from the young people so truly meets their needs!
Building began in January 2020 & continued throughout lockdown with us nearing completion now.
The inside is finished & there are just some exterior landscaping jobs left to be completed. We’ve
also had, and continue to get, fantastic support from Banwell Parish Council throughout this project
who will complete the finishing touch soon when the car park is resurfaced.
In the time between lockdowns 1 & 2 some of the sections were able to very briefly make use of the
building but unfortunately due to the lack of face to face Scouting we are yet to make full use of the
space. Once we are able to return though, this building is going to transform Scouting in Banwell
and the Leaders have already got amazing things planned!
As well as being a fantastic resource for the young people of the area we are looking forward to
welcoming other local groups into the building, if you’d like to hire the Hut just get in touch at
